Dental implants: a complete guide

A dental implant replaces a missing tooth from the root up. It's the closest modern dentistry comes to giving you a natural tooth back — and with today's computer-guided planning, the process is more precise and comfortable than ever.

What an implant actually is An implant has three parts: a small titanium screw that takes the place of the root, an abutment that connects to it, and a custom crown on top. The titanium fuses with your jawbone over a few months in a process called osseointegration, creating a stable, lifelong foundation.

The treatment, step by step 1. **3D consultation.** A CBCT scan lets us see your bone in three dimensions and plan the exact position digitally — together with you, on screen. 2. **Guided placement.** Using a custom surgical guide, the implant is placed in a short, minimally invasive procedure under local anaesthesia. 3. **Healing.** Over three to six months the implant integrates with the bone. A temporary tooth keeps your smile complete in the meantime. 4. **Final crown.** A CAD/CAM crown, shade-matched to your neighbouring teeth, is fitted for a seamless result.

Does it hurt? Most patients tell us it was easier than a tooth extraction. The procedure is done under local anaesthesia, and any mild soreness afterwards is usually managed with simple pain relief for a day or two.

How long do implants last? With good hygiene and routine check-ups, modern implants commonly last 20 years or more — and often a lifetime. Caring for them is no different from caring for natural teeth: brush, clean between them, and keep your hygiene visits.

Are you a candidate? Most healthy adults are. The best way to know is a 3D consultation, where we assess your bone and walk you through your options with no obligation.
